Updates:
Progress on the project has been slowed by a few challenges that have
surfaced. Weather has still been less than forthcoming during the month,
we've discovered a ground water issue in the building footprint of Pavilion
III, and there have been changes made to the foundations of the buildings
that were required. We are currently working to overcome these obstacles
and get back to building the museum. On a high note, our jobsite trailer
has been setup on site and we should be moving out to it in the coming
days.
Project Specific
Information:
Nestled on a nine-acre site midway between Duke University's East and West
Campus, the museum will consist of a ring of five separate pavilions: three
art pavilions; one for contemporary art; one for permanent collections; and
the third for special exhibitions. An education pavilion and 173-seat
lecture hall complete the program. Linking the pavilions is a soaring,
faceted glass roof, unsupported by columns, covering 13,610 square feet. Held
aloft by five intersecting steel beams forming a pentagon high above the
floor, the majestic glass roof will be an aesthetic marvel and an
engineering tour-de-force.
